Preparing for our trip!


The group gathered today to discuss the week's itinerary, which is below. We are getting excited for our trip to Washington, DC to study forensic biology. Parents, please contact the project leaders or the Director of Experiential Learning if you need specific times and locations.

Monday, March 9: Travel Day
  • Depart campus 6am
  • Fly out of Boston
  • Arrive in DC
  • Check into hotel
  • Get metro passes
Tuesday, March 10: Crime Museum
  • Forensic Lab
  • Tour of the Museum and lunch
  • Fact vs Fiction Lab
  • Body Decompostion Lab
Wednesday, March 11: J. Craig Venter Institute (JCVI)
  • Welcome
  • Review of DNA
  • Tour of facility
  • Lunch
  • Electrophoresis Lab
  • Introduction to animal forensics
  • Electrophoresis Lab
  • Wrap-up
Thursday, March 12: Crime Museum
  • Blood/DNA Lab
  • Anthropology Lab
  • Lunch
  • Autopsy Lab
Friday, March 13: Travel Day
  • Check out of hotel
  • Fly out of DC
  • Arrive in Boston
  • Arrive back on campus around 5pm 
  • Preparations for symposium 
Saturday, March 14: Project Week Symposium

We also discussed at our meeting a packing list, which is below:
  • Our airline allows 1 carry-on bag, 1 personal bag, and 1 checked bag free of charge
  • Over 18 years old, a valid photo ID (driver’s license, Passport). If under 18 years old, bring school ID
  • IPad and charger for blogging
  • Phone and phone charger
  • Toiletries (Remember if you are just bringing carry on luggage, toiletries must be in clear Ziploc bags and liquids cannot exceed 3.4oz)
  • Clothing Items:
    • Comfortable shoes – We will be standing on our feet a lot and walking around the city. No fancy shoes!
    • It will be in the high 40’s to mid 50’s. Pack appropriate clothing. School attire when we are at the museum and JCVI. No sweatpants during those days (including leggings and yoga pants). Travel days you may wear sweats.
    • Jacket
    • Sleeping Clothes/Pajamas
    • Undergarments
    • Socks
