Arizona Golf Industry Day 2

Tuesday was an excellent day learning from top professionals in the golf industry.  Our meetings were very informative, and continued to spark the interest of our group in sports management.

In the morning, we traveled to Troon, the largest golf course management company in the world, to meet with their Vice President of Operations and learn about the company.  After taking a tour of the office, we learned about the various departments within Troon and the employment opportunities within golf management.  From management, golf professionals, food and beverage, merchandise, agronomy and finance, there are so many different types of jobs working towards a great golf product.

The group at Troon with VP of Operations Guy.  We sat in the board room and learned a tremendous amount about the company.

Guy gave us a great breakdown of Troon as a company and all of their exciting work.

Many famous golfers are sponsored by Troon, including Justin Thomas and Gary Woodland.  They keep used tournament bags from the pros in their office.

In the afternoon, we traveled to Grayhawk Golf Club to meet with their Head Golf Professional and tour their amazing facility.  Grayhawk has two 18-hole golf courses that are in high demand and maintained beautifully.  An average round of golf at Grayhawk is over $300 per player!

Grayhawk is hosting the NCAA D1 National Championship this Spring for the second year in a row.

At night, Tucker Williams visited our house and spoke about his education in the PGM program and his experience in the golf industry.  It was great to hear the experience of someone so connected to New Hampton.

Overall, it was a great day learning from professionals at some of the biggest and most popular names in golf.  Tomorrow, the group takes a day trip to Sedona for a day trip to meet with Oak Creek Golf Club and play at their course!
