Chicago Food, History & Culture: Day Two

 From Agnar & Walker:

Tuesday, we took a tour hosted by Gabe based on the premise of iconic Chicago foods. We started off the morning  with a stop at Lou Malnati’s to eat a slice of deep-dish pizza, and began our walk. After a quick history lesson outside, we went downtown to the Billy Goat tavern and ate some real Chicago style hot dogs. We then took a detour and went to the Chicago Cultural Center, and then to the Exchequer restaurant where Gabe told us about the mob, Al Capone, and the St. Valentines day massacre. We ate some Italian beef there, then proceeded to the Palmer House and ate brownies. We said our goodbyes to Gabe and then went  to the famous “Bean” to take pictures and decompress. We headed home after a long day, and got ready for a Blackhawks game…

That night, we went to go see a Chicago Blackhawks game. They played against the Anaheim Ducks, who are from Anaheim, California. We left the hotel at approximately 6:15 and took the metro to the game. It was about a 15-minute walk to the stadium from the station we got off on. The game started at 7:30, and the stadium was electric. It was helped by the fact that the Blackhawks were celebrating St. Patricks day which added a green festive cheer with live music and dance performances. The Blackhawks started the game amazingly with a 5 goal first period. They started the second period just as well with a goal in the first two minutes. Then we were in for a bit of a surprise when the Ducks scored three unanswered goals. But that didn’t change anything. The Hawks go their act together and went on to win the game 8-3. With future first ballot hall of famer, Patrick Kane, having his most productive game in his career with 5 assists and a goal. We then went home taking the metro, having enjoyed a great day.
