Bicentennial Podcast Episode #4: Editing the interviews and finalizing our script

Bicentennial Podcast: Project Week 2020

Today we started the process of editing 4 hours of raw interview audio down to a script that will result in our 20 to 30 minute podcast.  We used an online program called Sonix that translates audio into text in .docx format.  It provides time stamps throughout that will allow us to find the audio we need efficiently.

We spent a good portion of the day reading through the interviews and highlighting the alumni comments that were a good fit for our podcast.  We looked for common themes between the alumni interviews that tell the story of the New Hampton "Experience".

We also created the introduction for our podcast using Logic Pro X recording software.  We are excited as it really sets the tone for the rest of our podcast. We had a good time recording with some special guests. #slowclapmaster

Bicentennial Podcast Episode #2: Alumni Conversations (Part1)

Bicentennial Podcast: Project Week 2020

Our second day was spent traveling around Boston to collect the stories of New Hampton Alumni.  We started the day interviewing Mr. Eric Dean, Class of '10, at our hotel.  Eric spoke about his appreciation of supportive adults and the sense of community he felt as a student at NHS.

We then headed to Newbury Street to meet with Mr. Chris Collins, Class of '86, at his place of business.  Chris spoke about his experience as a student of color, athletics, and his career in sports broadcasting.

Our next interview was with Mr. Collin Bray, Class of '02, at his place of business.  Collin was happy to share stories about his experiences on the basketball team and his coach, Mr. Jamie Arsenault.  He spoke enthusiastically about how the connections he made at New Hampton prepared him for his career.

Due to a cancelation, we had the pleasure of recording a phone interview with Mr. Freddy Petkus, Class of '02.  He urged students to value their time at New Hampton and make the most out of the experience.

After our interviews, we headed to "Escape the room" to solve Cartman's classroom.  WE ESCAPED and are all still talking to each other.

To end our night we shared a wonderful meal and many laughs.  We are tired but excited for our second day of interviews.

Bicentennial Podcast Episode #1: NHPR to Boston

Bicentennial Podcast: Project Week 2020

We have had a great day!  We started with an excellent lunch at Dos Amigos in Concord and then headed to NHPR for a tour and a podcasting masterclass with Nick Capodice. (Educational Outreach Producer/Host of Civics 101).  He was energetic and passionate about the art of podcasting and sharing it with students.

He gave us industry tips on how to build our podcast, resources for sounds and music, and let us take a turn on professional equipment.  We left our time at NHPR exited to start our podcast and with a better understanding of the process we will undertake starting tomorrow, from recording to editing.

We ended our day with a wonderful Italian meal and cannoli from Mike's Pastry!

We are up bright and early tomorrow and will be heading out to interview the first four of our Alumni.  We are excited to hear their stories.
