Day 5 - Who Let the Dogs Out?

We kicked off the last day of Project Week with a Zoom call from Chris MacDonald P'23. Chris is a cyber security state police officer in MA with many years of experience, including covering the Boston Marathon the year of the bombing. Six years ago Chris was also trained as a dog handler to Winnie, the state's only electronics detecting canine. Winnie is an 8-year-old Yellow Lab and she and Chris have worked together on over 350 cases.
The rest of the day was spent taking the dogs on an extra long final walk and making homemade organic dog treats.

Day 4 - Who Let the Dogs Out

Day 4: Mr. George did a fun photo shoot with the dogs and their handlers this morning.

Say cheese, Oscar!

We learned so much from our week working with the faculty dogs.

This afternoon we were treated to a police dog demonstration from two NH State Troopers and their dual purpose dogs.

Group Photos with our special guests.

Brooke tried on the K-9 attack suit while the dogs were safely tucked away in the police cruisers.

Day 3 - Who Let the Dogs Out?

We started the day with a budgeting exercise. Students worked in small groups to calculate the initial cost of buying a dog as well as the cost per year and per lifetime. Non-negotiables such as food and vet care expenses were determined as well as cost of grooming, toys, dog bed, collar, obedience training, spay/neutering, food dish, treats, etc.

Although the dogs are cute, picking up the dog's poop is not, but we learned it is something we MUST do.

Who could ever say no to this face?

We did some leash training in the local cemetery. Pictured here are Luke, Logan and Bowdoin.

And capped off the day with a visit from Dr. Jones, P'22 and her dog Lui. Dr. Jones is a veterinarian in NH and specializes in delivering puppies! It was a full day!

Day 2 - Who Let the Dogs Out?

Day 2 - We did some more training on the turf field as well as some unexpected search and rescue (all are safe and sound, no worries). The weather has been beautiful and the cuteness factor of the dogs has been high.

Bella was named TOP DOG yesterday. Today she proudly posed with her trophy.

Luke has been very busy teaching Bowdoin to be gentle when taking treats.

Carley and Carter pose with Huxley.

Brooke gets some training tips from our resident expert, Mr. George.

After lunch we Zoomed with a specialist named Mona Rooney, who educated the group about acupuncture and herbal therapy for dogs. Her presentation was very interesting and informative.

The morning started with a get to know you game and then the group moved into dog training 101 with Mr. George. We then go acquainted with procedure for dog pick up.
