Live and Let Live Farm

Lessons learned at Live and Let Live

Alex Kopyova: I learned how to work with animals, improve farming supplies and organize myself. The work on the farm is very difficult and the weather sometimes makes it even worse, but the idea of helping animals and hard work of the other volunteers I inspired me to do my best during our stay on the farm.

Chris Elhayek: I became more confident around animals. Before Project Week I had never been around horses and goats and throughout the week I learned how to groom them and clean their living spaces.

Noah Dumont: I learned how to pen a horse, how to behave around a misbehaving horse and what a lunge crop/whip is and how it is used.

Nikki Bronson: I learned how to back up a truck and how to do water on the farm.

Amelia Clairmont: I practiced driving a truck and learned how to groom a horse.

Jenny Kim: I learned how to clean a bunny cage.

Kelly Kim: This was my first experience on a farm so I picked up many skills. I learned how to groom a horse, muck a paddock and care for small animals.

Katya Egorova: I gained confidence around big animals and learned what caring for them involves. I mucked paddocks, groomed horses and walked large dogs for the first time.

Live and Let Live: Day 5

Last Day at the Farm

The group made the most of our final day at the Live and Let Live Farm. After a week of experience everyone knew exactly what needed to be done and engaged in the familiar tasks of mucking paddocks, cleaning the puppy stalls, feeding the horses, cows and goats, and filling the water bowls. We ended our week at the Live and Let Live on a high note: socializing with the puppies as they waited to go home to their new families. To add icing on the top of the cake, Momma Goat gave birth to two healthy kids on Saturday.

The work we accomplished throughout the week made a significant impact on the farm and enriched each one of us as individuals. It was wonderful to see everyone climb out of their comfort zones and embrace new challenges. We are grateful for the opportunity to help out and experience a taste of life on a rescue farm.

We wish the best for our animal friends. Ms. Williams artfully captured some of them below:

Live and Let Live: Day 4

Getting Into The Groove

Today at Live and Let Live Farm was busy as always. We started off the day splitting up into groups to perform different tasks. I went along to the puppy building where I moved Holly and B inside their kennels. I then helped clean out the puppy enclosure. We let all of the puppies out of their cages to run around and that was a fun experience.

Later on in the day after lunch we fed the animals a different assortment of fruits and vegetables. Following that we groomed the many different horses on the farm.

We are excited to make the most of our last day on the farm tomorrow!

Live and Let Live Farm: Day 3

A Beautiful Day On The Farm

Today we enjoyed a great day on the farm! The weather was super nice and we did a lot of work. We started our morning with cleaning puppies cages and walking with the dogs. Later, Noah, Alex and Katya cleaned and refilled all the tubs on the farm and the rest of the group cleaned the some paddocks. Moreover, we fed cows, goats and rabbits. Before lunch the whole group spent some time cleaning and organizing the warehouse and Mrs. Williams came over to take some great pictures!
After taking a lunch break at Panera Bread, we cleaned the huge goose bedding together, displaying awesome team work. (Better together, right huskies?) At the end of the day we had a chance to unwind, spending some time with horses and taking pictures. It was a nice and very productive day. Good job guys!

Live and Let Live: Day 2

Back to the farm!

Today the Live and Let Farm team started the day by feeding and interacting with goats and sheep. Then we separated into groups to work with horses and clean the puppy kennels.

Next we cleaned paddocks, deconstructed a kennel, walked the dogs and played with the puppies. We also exercised horses, learned how to groom and pick hooves, and cleaned several paddocks using the tractor.
