Day 4: STIK Zoom Call, Knitting, and Cooking!

We started off the day with a zoom meeting with the founder of the company STIK. She told us about her sustainable knitting company. After that we knitted until lunch time. Then we made homemade pizza, which was delicious. After lunch we made essential oils, and finished the day off with some more knitting!

Morning and afternoon knitting! Learning different stitches, and techniques for our projects.

Zoom call with the founder of STIK, Christina Fagan Pardy! She taught us about her knitting company, work with women in Peru, and being a woman in business.

Day 3 of Knitting and Stretching

We all had a very productive and relaxing day! In the morning, we got quickly to work and continued our knitting projects that have progressed tremendously in only a matter of days. After a good period of time had passed, we decided to order lunch from Live Juice in Concord. We all called in our orders, which consisted of many nutritious smoothies and salads, and traveled soon after to get them. It was so nice to drive only thirty minutes off campus and find a restaurant option that offered so many delicious and healthy meals in our area. After returning to school and eating our lunches we jumped right back into each of our knitting projects until the end of our time block. Before we left for our other activities, we were reminded to do our own research and create questions for the founder of the company “Sh*t that I Knit” that we will be zooming tomorrow. Overall, today was very successful and it gave us a much-needed break from the outside stresses of daily life.

Knit and Stretch: Opening Days

Day 1

Our week of knitting and yoga started off really fun! In the morning, we all searched for patterns and projects that we wanted to create. After everyone knew what they wanted to make, we headed down to Hobby Lobby in Tilton to get yarn. This was a new experience for a lot of us so finding specific needles and yarn was interesting. We quickly stopped at Starbucks afterward for a little pre-knit drink, and once we got back to campus everyone started to learn the basics of knitting. We then took a break for lunch and began to do some yoga in the afternoon. We specialized the yoga session to what the group needed whether that be loosening tight hips, or stretching our legs and backs. Transitioning between sports is sometimes hard on our bodies and practicing yoga really helped me to relieve some tightness! I am really excited to get further into knitting tomorrow and do some more yoga outside!

Day 2

Today was a really fun day! We got a chance to enjoy the weather in the afternoon, which was great. In the morning, we started off with knitting. Now that everyone has begun their project, we all immediately got into the groove of knitting. Time went by so quickly and everyone’s knitting was starting to come together. After we knit for a while, we then took a break to learn about deodorant and make our own natural deodorant. We used a database to find our current deodorants and see any harmful ingredients that we may be putting on our bodies without realizing. This was extremely eye opening for me, as I found out my natural deodorant was less natural than I thought. We then got the opportunity to make our own deodorant, which was super fun and the blend of essential oils smelled really good. After we had cleaned up from that, we broke for lunch.

After lunch, we decided to go outside and enjoy the beautiful warm and sunny weather. We brought our yoga mats up to the turf, and we knit up there for a while. We spread out so we could take our masks off and it felt so nice to be outside after the long winter. We ended our day with a yoga class led by Ms. Aronson. We focused on our breath and stretching for today’s class, and it was a really nice and relaxing way to end the day. With spring sports starting, everyone’s bodies were feeling tight and yoga was a great way to remedy that. Overall, today was a very chill day and we all got some much-needed sun to go along with our knitting.
