Tinker Shop Day 3

On Day 3 of Tinker Shop, the group was in the wood shop. We started the day learning the basics of power tool safety through videos and demos on the equipment. Then we learned the typical tools a carpenter uses and how to use them properly. We each had the opportunity to use a nail gun, miter saw, table saw, drill press and rotor, as well as speed squares and screwdrivers.

In the afternoon we used our newly acquired skills to begin assembling tables for the hoop house, or greenhouse, that is being built on campus. We split into groups; one for measuring and drawing out the cuts on the different boards we were using, one using the miter saw to cut the appropriate pieces of wood, and another to assemble the tables. The group managed to work efficiently to build two tables today.
