Today, we hopped on a bus and drove to a Maya cave, where we water tubed and paddled our way through history. We used headlamps to see the completely dark cave in order to avoid rocks, snakes, and other obstacles.

After a relaxing yet challenging swim, we were given the opportunity to jump off a cliff into the water. We also saw where Mayan rituals took place. Our excursion ended with a float in the sun down the river.
This part of the day, while strenuous and tiring, was extremely fun and active. After we explored the caves, we ate a filling lunch of chicken, fruit, beans and tortillas. After having time to look around the shops, we headed to our next location, which was the Maya temple ruins from 2500bc.
This site is called Xunantunich; an ancient city and temple. We climbed and inspected these ruins, and were completely awestruck once we climbed to the top of a particularly tall part of the ruins called “el Castillo”
At the top, you could see the border between Belize and Guatemala and it looked out over a landscape once viewed by Mayan kings. Afterwards, we retired to our bus, where we headed back to our rooms exhausted once again.
We ate a delicious dinner of chicken and rice, and ended the day with our bandana ceremony where yesterday’s recipient, Nora, awarded Pat the honor for his positive vibes. The night ended and we went to pack our bags for our trip to Glover’s Reef Marine Reserve.
