Rest, Restore and Recover...Alternative Methods of Health and Healing

On our last day of Project Week 2018, we rounded out our exploration of alternative methods to health and healing with Yin Yoga and then a trip to Meredith Whole Living Center.  In our modern day culture of go go go, rest is essential for recovery.
Local yoga instructor, Sanni Reale led us in Yin Yoga, a dramatic shift from the  heated flow practice we experienced in Boston yesterday.  Yin targets both the fascia and deep connective tissue of the body, stimulated through long holds, 3-5 minutes or more.

Next, we headed to Meredith for our "treatments"...
Students had the choice of receiving the benefits of a floatation therapy which happened in either a pod as seen here, or a small room.  Floatation therapy (sometimes called sensory depravation therapy) lowers cortisol, helps support restful sleep and speeds muscle recovery.

Alex shares his experience with Kerem as he prepares to float, giving him some tips!
In between treatments, students had a chance to get a bite to eat in the cafe downstairs.

Infrared sauna was also available, along with massage and Jade Bed massage.
Beemer Mat, Vascular Therapy improves microcirculation and vascular blood flow.  It promotes injury recovery and a wonderful sense of wellbeing.

What a wonderful day, filled with health, wellbeing and fun.  Our essential question asked if there is room in our western medical model for alternative methods to health and healing.  Let's see what our students decide.  Come to the Symposium on March 30th to find out what they have to say.
