Day Two in the Forge: Blacksmithing & Blisters

It's getting hot in here! So hot; I am going to pick my nose. (With a Texas nose-picker of course.) Disclaimer: A Texas nose-picker is actually made for flipping food on a grill. We made these today. See picture below.

Left: a Texas nose-picker.
Center: a hook w/ a twist, nail, and a double twisted hook.
Right: more twisted hooks, a leaf, and a bar with ram horn ends to be mounted w/ hooks.

Forge/Shop for the New England School of Metalwork; our home for the week in Lewiston, ME.
Where metal comes to life!

Our guide and master instructor for the week, Dereck, explaining the finer points of metalworking.
(Notice the intense concentration of Tommy, Dante, and Makoto.)

A story-board of how to make a metal leaf.
Dereck taking us through each chapter of the leaf's story.

Our arms are sore, everyone has a few minor burn stories, and our hands are blistered.
But just look at these smiling blacksmiths! Sushi eases all pain.
Tomorrow, we transition into our bladesmithing unit and make knives.

"This is easily my favorite Project Week so far." (4-year senior, Tristan MacDonald)
