  1. Day one was fascinating. We were introduced to Jay Truesdale, our facilitator for the week, who has spent his career in a number of interesting positions in government and the private sector.
    Our first guest was Georgiana Cavendish, who specializes in counterterrorism and hostage negotiations. She talked about specific involvement in the release of individuals held by hostile actors and the process the US government uses to try to free them.

    In the Afternoon we spoke with David Gioe who is currently a professor of History at the US Military Academy. Previously David served as an intelligence officer working with the FBI and the CIA. He talked about what it was like to be a field intelligence operative working in a number of locations in the world.

    Yesterday we heard from two career diplomats, Tom Wotka and Jed Wolfington. They talked about what it took to enter the field of diplomacy. Tom spoke about his work in Europe on energy policy and the challenge of managing Europes energy needs and dependence on Russian natural gas.He also talked about Europe's focus on alternative energy policy, investment and development. Jed spoke to us about the importance of developing cultural competence as a diplomat and how important this is to developing meaningful relationships with other nations.

  4. Day 3: We interacted with some fascinating service men today. Mark Sullivan who spent 20+ years flying fighter aircraft for the US Navy as well as spending time in operations and training. Mark served in Afghanistan supporting ground operations during the conflict. Tom Barron spent 10 years in the US Army after graduating from Harvard in 2010. He entered Ranger training and became a part of the elite 82nd Airborne before being selected for Special Forces training. He led operations in the Afghan conflict and later in various locations on the African continent.
