Alternative Photography day 5: Edits, donuts, levitation and rain

Friday, March 26, 2021

Today, students in the Alternative photography group went on a trip to Meredith. After eating some donuts, the tripod was set up and some photos were taken for a levitation edit

Students posed on stools in front of the water, and after using the magic of Photoshop, they were floating over the dock.

We then took a trip to Moulton Farms to wander and take some more photos. There were flowers, fruits, vegetables, and many photographic opportunities. We then went back to campus for lunch in the pouring rain.

After learning much in the days prior, students were free in the afternoon to continue with any processes that they had learned and wanted to work with more. The options available include silver-gelatin development, cyanotypes, (although the weather was a bit less forgiving today) and continuing to edit photos from earlier in the week in Photoshop.

Alternative Photography Day 3: Portrait lighting: Silver Gelatin: Things Developing

Today in photography we started the day with having 5 minutes each to take photos with portrait lighting alone.

We also took some photos around campus. after that we talked about different portrait lighting techniques and how to set them up and when/why we would use them.

Lastly, we went into the dark room and used our negatives to create photos using the silver gelatin process (black and white). We learned how to use photography paper and how to develop the photos. Some people also made photograms using the same process.
