Alternative Methods...Boston Bound!

We started our day on campus with some rigorous Vinyasa yoga to get us moving (check the Flickr page for photos)
Next we boarded the bus to head south before the storm began.  We made our first stop in Davis Square, Somerville with Cathy.  She is a licensed Acupuncturist and Chinese Herbalist.  The photo below shows moxabustion wrapped around a needle in two different forms.  Mrs.Tyson got that treatment.  The moxa was set on fire and burned on the needle while in her leg.

Alex received the procedure we became familiar with during the summer Olympics called cupping.  Look how the bubbles of skin on the right side are darker.  This is because the Chi energy is most stagnant there, reflecting the point of injury.  Cupping stimulates the Chi to support healing.  And it didn't hurt.

Drew got Gua Sha, another treatment to stimulate healing.  First Cathy, rubbed his arm with oil and then began scrapping his skin.  No real discomfort, Drew reported.

Next, on to lunch!  Plenty of yummy options in Davis Square...

After we checked into our hotel, we headed to China Town, to a local apothecary to get our prescription filled.  Cathy wrote prescription for an immune system booster.  This lovely lady filled the prescription with roots and stems pulled from her wall of drawers.  She measured them on a rough scale she carried in one hand, and then we paid $1 for the potion we will demonstrate at the symposium.

Then, it was dinner time and a train ride back to the hotel!
