Day 2: Knot Your Average Sailing Trip

Today was our first full day of project week, during which we sailed to an island to snorkel above a shipwrecked boat, learned how to raise the sail on our vessel, and developed our anchoring skills using cleat knots. Because this was our first real day at sea, we practiced safety skills such as man-overboard drills and pointing directions for a navigating captain. During our five hours of sailing today, we caught a mystery fish that took almost an hour to reel in. We also raised and trimmed the sail while taking turns as first mate. There were also sightings of dolphins and whales while we sailed to our final destination of St. Croix.
