The reality? Coming home with tails between our legs. We found two. Three if you count the one that we found at a rest area on our way to Portland. Here's a picture of that:
Jack, Declan, and Andrew at the early find. |
Then we got to Portland. The first one we went after was a mystery cache for which we needed to gather information at one site to help us get the coordinates for the cache's location at a second site. This was Cam's. We went to a cemetery and got the needed info on where to find Longfellow's childhood home. We went there. Nothing.
A disappointed Cam |
Then to another. It was Cassie's. Nothing. Then we hit some good luck. We found Declan's cache "Sven" on a picturesque promenade.
Declan for the win |
The group enjoys a scenic overlook |
Then we found Harry's "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory." What fun that sounded like. The description promised Oompa Loompas and a lifetime supply of chocolate. What did we get? A walkway overlooking Portland's sewage treatment center.
Harry with the find. (Even though Melon actually found it.) |
Then we went for an island cache that Jack wanted to explore. Nothing.
Then another stop along the Eastern Promenade for Andrew's choice. Nothing.
Then the bitter cold and disappointment sent us home.
Our spirits and humors are high, though, and we look forward to tomorrow when we will devise our own cache AND explore another activity that uses the same kind of problem solving skills needed to Geocache: an escape room!
