Day 1: Yoga, Meditation, and the Creative Process

Our set up today in the new wellness center yoga studio
After we got oriented and introduced ourselves to each other, Ms. Tyson led our group in a wonderful yoga session. We took a break for tea and snacks. Then, we talked a bit about the practice of meditation and its benefits. Ms. Tyson led us in a short sitting meditation and then a guided meditation. Students left for lunch feeling relaxed from this practice.

Ink and Good Vibes
Suminagashi- an ancient paper marbling technique traced back to have originated in China over 2000 years ago, was practiced as a form of meditation and divination by Shinto monks in Japan.

Ms. Pereira led us in this practice with sumi ink and soap- floating the ink on the surface tension of the water, and watching the designs change form according to the vibrations and movement in the room. Everyone had a chance to try it and pulled several of their own prints from the surface of their individual water baths. It was a lot of fun!
