I wrote last week about the process of creating a physical prop and the idea I had for the CGI effects. Here is a brief test reel to see how the whole thing might work together.
I'm not sure, I think I don't quite have the correct level of pop: I feel like the heads-up display should be a bit more translucent and the laser blast should stand out a bit more.
UPDATE 2/8/14 - I updated the test reel to include a different blaster charging up and firing effect. What do you think?
