First Day of Lifeguarding

This morning was spent going over the basics of lifeguarding and the legal responsibilities the guards will have upon obtaining certification. Although long, and somewhat dry, New Hampton's future lifeguards powered through and got ahead of schedule.

The afternoon was spent doing their pre-requirements: a 300 yard swim, a 25 yard/10 pound brick retrieval, and two minutes of treading water without using their hands. All the huskies passed, however, they all agreed that it was more difficult than they anticipated.

Finally, the tired Huskies finished the day off learning the basic rescues and practiced identifying the stages of drowning victims.

It was a good day today, and it should be another strong one tomorrow.
